Tis the season to get creative! With Instagram and Pinterest hot at our fingertips, there is no excuse for boring and dull decorations this year. We know how busy this time of year can be, so let’s jump straight into our favourite takes on the Christmas classics.

Cute Christmas critters

Christmas tree decorations seem to get more and more intricate every year. I mean there will always be a place for those plain “filler” baubles, but the real treasures are the beautiful detailed pieces hanging beneath the pine needles. And who can go past an array of cute fluffy, furry and woven animal ornaments like owls, foxes, polar bears and reindeer?

Stylish holiday wreath

I’ll be honest, I’ve never been a huge fan of these (often) tacky looking things that look like they came out of someone’s basement storage from 1986. Featuring cheap plastic greenery that barely passes as ivy or pine, holiday wreaths were always on my “omit” list. Until now. These days there are so many amazing wreath ideas – like the trending asymmetrical wreath – that you can make your front door look unique and modern while still maintaining that good old Christmas spirit.

Plastic-free gift wrapping

Okay, this has got to be one of the coolest ideas I have seen to date. Not only is this great for the environment, but it also functions as a second gift – a gift within a gift! Zero waste, you can use tea towels or even beeswax wraps (depending on what you’re wrapping) featuring super cute holiday prints. Can someone please wrap all my presents like this?!

2D Christmas tree

No room for a Christmas tree? No worries! Whether you’ve had enough of your cat (or toddler) using the Christmas tree as a jungle gym or just don’t have the space, a flat version against a wall is a genius alternative. From decals to fairy lights – and even Christmas cards – there are so many ways to put up a creative rendition of the most iconic Christmas decoration (most are rental friendly too!).

Magical fairy lights

Okay, I’m admitting it; I am the BIGGEST sucker for fairy lights and a strong advocate for year-round fairy light applications. No, not the colourful versions that seem to flash on hyper-mode every few seconds. Choose the dainty ones made of copper wire – throw them into a jar, lay across open shelving or even wrap around a floor lamp – the applications are endless, and will create an instant festive vibe.
